Cardinal Donald Wuerl of Washington, D.C., wrote in a letter to Catholic leaders that he will go to Rome to speak to Pope Francis about his possible resignation. He’s been under attack since the release of the scathing Pennsylvania grand jury report that detailed decades of sexual abuse by Catholic priests, and called out his handling of the allegations when he was bishop of Pittsburgh.
