‘Brooklyn’ star Saoirse Ronan: This film is ‘my mom and dad’s story’

Best known as the teenage assassin in “Hanna,” the child narrator of “The Lovely Bones,” and for her Oscar-nominated performance in “Atonement” at age 13, actress Saoirse Ronan now plays a young Irish immigrant in “Brooklyn,” which is set in the 1950s. Born in the Bronx to Irish parents but raised in Ireland and England, she says the film is “my mom and dad’s story” and makes fun of her very non-Bronx Irish accent. “Saoirse from the block,” TODAY’s Willie Geist jokingly calls her.
