20 years after Matthew Shepard’s murder, his parents’ activism continues

Mathew Shepard, a bright student who was openly gay, was beaten and tortured 20 years ago in an attack that would take his life. His parents and a foundation that bears his name remain focused on reducing hate crimes as reported incidents rose last year in many cities across the country.
