‘There has been community spread’ of South Africa strain, CDC director says

Rochelle Walensky, director of the CDC, tells TODAY that evidence indicates that the South Africa variant of the coronavirus “is in fact here,” and “the assumption at this point is that there has been community spread of this strain.” She also talks about the status of the vaccine rollout, the safety of reopening schools, and the most effective kind of mask to wear in light of the new strains: a “cloth mask that has at least two or three layers.”
