Considering that there are air fresheners which help you keep that "new car smell" lingering long after your ride is beaten and battered, we shouldn't really be surprised that there's now a similar product for that new Apple gadget smell.
As the folks at Macworld Australia point out, this strange item was created by an artistic collaborative group which set out to capture and replicate the "distinctive smell" which "can be observed when unwrapping a newly purchased Apple product from its packaging."
These individuals — who work under the name Greatest Hits — approached fragrance maker Air Aroma for help with the project. They ordered fragrance samples with the aroma of glue, plastic, rubber and paper from the south of France and then worked with profesional perfume makers to create a fragrance using those scents.
In the end, their noses were pleased:
The scent created for Greatest Hits encompasses the smell of the plastic wrap covering the box, printed ink on the cardboard, the smell of paper and plastic components within the box and of course the aluminum laptop which has come straight from the factory where it was assembled in China.
"Apple fans will certainly recognize this smell," remarked Air Aroma's Alex Cosic.
Unfortunately most of us, Apple fans or not, will never get the chance to take a test sniff and see if the Greatest Hits fragrance really does smell like a brand new MacBook Pro — because was created for an artistic exhibition in Melbourne.
Sorry, fanboys, this will not be available for purchase.
