Today’s kaleidoscopic coifs exude subtle dimension that almost looks, um, natural — thanks to a new technique from Redken’s Chiala Marvici. But Marvici's not the only one turning heads with the trend. The entire hairstyling community's buzzing about it. (Just ask Instagram.)
It’s called hand-pressed coloring, and it’s the hottest thing since cold-pressed juices.
Here’s how it works: The colorist draws a geometric pattern on plexiglass using multiple shades of hair dye, then presses sections of hair into the dye with a putty knife. The idea is to saturate the strands by letting them rest in the pools of color, imprinting the pattern onto the hair. And the results? Pretty fabulous. The look is less teen hoodlum and more fairy princess.
