Get Stuff We Love
It was a gloomy Thursday morning on the plaza as TODAY greeted October, but that didn't stop our fans from coming out for Ambush Makeover. Our team of celebrity hairstylist Louis Licari and TODAY contributor Jill Martin were ready to add some outer beauty to deserving ladies.
Carmen Kingsbury, 61, was eager for a makeover, but it was Randy, her husband of over 40 years, who was beyond thrilled when she was chosen for pampering. It was hard for the Ambush team not to notice the couple because Randy was holding a sign that read: 'HELP! My wife really needs a makeover! Don't tell her I said so." Carmen who's a grandmother of four, was ready to kick off her first trip to to the Big Apple with a new 'do!
"Whoa! Who are you?" said Randy within a split second of seeing Carmen's new look for the first time. As for Carmen, when she got her first glimpse of her new look, she had to move closer to the mirror to make sure she was seeing correctly.
"It's amazing! It doesn't look like her at first, but, man, wow! What a job!" exclaimed Randy, grinning ear to ear at how beautiful Carmen looked. Now that's love.
For Lori Van Ruiten, 58, Thursday was her chance to glam it up! The retired corrections officer, who used to work at a maximum security facility in an all-male unit, was ready to add a little feminine flair to her look. Lori had never dyed her hair and hadn't worn makeup in many years, so her daughter Michelle was quick to wish our Ambush team luck in making Thursday the day everything changed.
"Holy crap!" screamed Michelle as she saw her mom for the first time with her new, glamorous look.
"Whoa! Serious? That's unbelievable!" said Lori upon her big reveal.
These two ladies are leaving New York City in style. When they get home, their friends might not even recognize them!
