Tori Spelling first captured our hearts as Donna Martin – the ‘90210’ teen with graduation difficulties – and now, she’s back in our TV lives, starring with her husband Dean McDermott in the reality TV series “Tori & Dean.”
The pregnant star doesn’t seem to slow down – she’s currently designing a DIY fashion line with Darice Inc., taping a new season of “Home Sweet Hollywood” for Oxygen, and just showed off her pet chicken in this week’s episode “Millionaire Matchmaker.” Between all that, she spoke to The Look about her love of fashion, ‘90s trends and of course, motherhood:
What are your must-have beauty products?
Dr. Haushka Rose Day Cream, Biosilk for hair/skin and Maybelline Great Lash mascara.
What’s one fashion trend we likely won’t catch you in?
High-waisted pants 'til way after I have the baby!
Do you ever miss your ‘90210’ Donna Martin wardrobe?
I absolutely don't miss Donna Martin's wardrobe. The ‘90s don't have many trends that I think should resurface!
Who is one of your style icons?
Kate Moss.
What inspired you for your upcoming DIY jewelry line, Styled by Tori Spelling?
I love designing jewelry and I love crafting. Those two passions inspired to come up with a DIY jewelry line!
You’re a big fan of DIY and crafting. How do you find the time?
To me, DIY = love! So whether it's a party or a gift, I think DIY is always the personal way to go. And crafting is therapeutic for me. It's how I decompress from work. It is also a hobby I can do with my kids.
You guest-starred in this season of “Millionaire Matchmaker.” Do you have any first date style don’ts like Patti has?
Don't dress to impress anyone but yourself. Wear what you feel comfortable in and what feels "you" and makes you feel great. Not what you think your date will want you to be in.
You're so stylish during your pregnancies. What were some of the advantages and challenges of maternity fashion?
The key to maternity dressing is embracing your bump and new curves. Wearing huge baggy clothes only makes you look bigger. Semi-form-fitting looks great! And non-maternity is the new maternity! Maxi-dresses and kaftans look great! And since my waist is now non-existent, I like to wear a thin belt like at empire waist-level under my boobs. It gives preggers a great shape.
What’s the most fun part about being a mom? What’s the hardest part so far?
Every moment is fun being a mom. It's rediscovering life all over again through their eyes. It's amazing and gets better and better every day. The things that come out of their mouths are hilarious! I giggle to myself all day long listening to them. As they get older it does get more challenging just because they are learning to test boundaries. And I hear the word "Why" 50 times a day!
What’s the best bit of advice you’ve gotten about motherhood?
The best advice I ever got was don’t listen to anyone's advice about motherhood. Trust your own maternal instincts… they won't steer you wrong.
