When a company designs an item that’s both practical and stylish, women tend to take notice. Cases in point: MM.LaFleur’s Casey dress and Everlane’s Day heel racked up waitlists in the thousands last year.
Now, the newest coveted piece is a cardigan from French brand Sezane; company representatives revealed the item has prompted a waitlist of nearly 50,000 people since it first launched in September.
Sezane’s Barry Jumper features a wide collar, deep V-neck and small gold metal buttons, and can be worn frontward or backward. The cardigan comes in four classic colors and is part of the brand’s La Liste collection, a permanent grouping of evergreen staples; additional seasonal colors are also available for a limited run. At $120, this cardigan isn't cheap, but if you’re looking for a reason to justify the splurge, consider its versatility as both a standalone and layering piece; plus, it can achieve completely different looks since it can be worn two ways.
“It’s the ultimate French girl cardigan — effortless and a bit sexy while still being classic,” said Sezane founder Morgane Sézalory. “If worn backwards, it slips off the shoulders for an additional feminine touch.”
The French direct-to-consumer brand is definitely onto something, relying on classic silhouettes with a twist to entice style-conscious customers. And the Barry cardigan isn’t the only piece that’s found a strong following.
“We’re bringing the French lifestyle to women everywhere,” said Sézalory.
While the Barry cardigan is scheduled to restock in the coming weeks, for those who can’t stand the thought of a waitlist, the brand’s Cassie and Cooper sweaters are equally chic knitwear designs. And if you’re looking for more budget-friendly cardigans that are available right now, we’ve rounded up some styles to satisfy your shopping urge.
