Who knew Anna Wintour was such a cutup? Sarah Jessica Parker, that’s who, as she played comedic sidekick to the Vogue editor on "Late Night With Seth Meyers".
The two fashion icons made a joint appearance on the show Wednesday night to talk about this year’s Met Costume Institute Gala, which Parker co-chaired for the first time.
At the request of Meyers, the two ladies critiqued the men's fashion at the red carpet ball and singled out which ones correctly nailed the “white tie” theme.
But first, Wintour offered her critique of how Parker fared in her co-chair duties after the “Sex And the City” star admitted, “I was reprimanded fairly early on in the process.”
"She talks too much," Wintour clarified, evoking laughter from the audience. “I just stick out my hand and say, 'The exhibition’s here, I'm sure you're going to love it."
Parker explained that Wintour is “very practiced” at greeting Gala guests after doing so for 16 years.
"She offers a hospitable hand and without using any words is able to communicate that that's all that will happen — and then then I ask about the health of the wife, were you able to get parking?" the actress said.
Wintour said she's seen a wide array of personalities co-chair the Gala each year. When George Clooney held the role, "the women would just not leave his side,” she said, joking about how his fans would leave their e-mail and phone numbers with him.
“He had the best line of all. 'Hello, I’m George Clooney and I’m running for Congress. Do I have your vote?’” she recalled.
Wintour and Parker elicited so many laughs from the audience that Parker at one point told Meyers, "By the way, we are announcing here tonight, the kick off of our college tour.
"Yeah, we’re doing a little comedy show.”
