Oscar de la Renta can't wait to see Hillary Clinton in the White House — ideally, in the same hairstyle she's sporting today.
"I love Hillary," the famed fashion designer recently told Gotham magazine. "She’s extraordinary, a symbol of where women want to go. I assume we will have a woman president soon."
De la Renta says he loves the former first lady's current look, but he hasn't always been a fan. While she was serving as secretary of state, he says he even made a slight suggestion about Clinton's (often controversial) hairstyle.
“Doesn’t she look great now?" De la Renta told the magazine. "I told her a while back [when she was Secretary of State] she should cut her hair. She said she couldn’t do it then because when she arrived in a foreign country and asked for a hairdresser, Homeland Security would have to check the person out. But doesn’t she look fantastic now?"
To answer de la Renta’s question, one must simply turn to social media. These days, the true measure of a beauty isn’t the quantity of beholders, it’s the abundance of parody accounts.
Judging by the social media accounts her hair has inspired — @HillarysHair, @Hillarys_Hair and even a Facebook fan page entitled “Hillary Clinton’s Butterfly Clip” — her new ‘do is a big deal. Nevertheless, Clinton remains miffed at the headlines her hairstyle invariably creates.
“I know that it’s one of the great fascinations of our time — much to my amazement,” she laughed in December. “I do not travel with any hairdresser, or anybody, to help me do (my hair), and I’m not very competent myself. I’ve been admitting that for years, which should be obvious to everyone."
