Hollywood A-listers donned their finest attire and walked the red carpet — but not for an awards show. Dozens of celebrities attended the 2014 Costume Institute Gala on Monday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, including Sarah Jessica Parker, Anna Wintour, Bradley Cooper, Rachel McAdams and many more. (Check back for updates as more stars arrive on the red carpet.)
This year’s star-studded fashion soiree boasted a “white tie” dress code, a dramatic departure from last year’s punk theme that celebrated the exhibition, “Punk: Chaos to Couture.”
Each $25,000 ticket will benefit the Met’s Costume Institute, which recently underwent a $40 million renovation and was reopened earlier Monday as the Anna Wintour Costume Center. First lady Michelle Obama inaugurated the center at the ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by a who’s who list of fashion dignitaries honoring the Vogue editor.
This year’s gala was chaired by Aerin Lauder and boasted Wintour as a co-chair, alongside Cooper, Parker, Oscar de la Renta, and Lizzie and Jonathan Tisch.
The evening’s “white tie” theme was a nod to the subject of the Anna Wintour Costume Center’s first exhibition, Charles James, a fashion giant known as the “great American couturier” whose design work from the 1930s to the 1970s redefined society glamour.
