"A Star is Born," indeed. Lady Gaga is particular about what she uses on her face, and very involved in all her looks. And the proof is in the pudding, so to speak: she's been a total knockout while walking the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival promoting her upcoming film, with an assist from her longtime her makeup artist Sarah Tanno.
“When it comes to beauty and inspiration, I have met my match. We are really always on the same page and have the same taste so it makes our collaborations seamless. She’s my muse,” said Tanno.
Sure, she’s a powerhouse vocalist, with five studio albums to her name, along with a slew of hits and a very active fanbase whom she calls her Little Monsters. Now, Gaga (real name: Stefani Germanotta) is ready to slay on the big screen as well. She’s got the lead in “A Star is Born,” opening Oct. 5, with Gaga as the love interest and inspiration of troubled rock star (played by Bradley Cooper).
And there's a reason that Gaga "has the most incredible skin in the business," said Tanno. Here's how she gets it.
Serum for skin prep
"I use a lot of different things depending on what the makeup is going to be. Prepping the skin the right way is essential for your makeup to look its best. I love serums. One of my favorites is Olehenriksen Truth Serum which is rich in Vitamin C and leaves the skin feeling tight, smooth and glowing.

Editor's note: Mindy Kaling, meanwhile, swears by a serum from celebrity facialist Joanna Vargas. And we love this serum by Dior, which leaves you skin feeling like velvet.

Face mask for anti-aging
"They have one for everything you need. I love to give the hydrating one to her on a flight to keep the skin hydrated. The anti-aging one is great for makeup prep because it tightens the pores and leaves the skin really smooth for application. They have a purifying one I like after we do a show to help detox the skin after heavier looks and sweating on stage," said Tanno.

"They also have my favorite eye patches to relieve any puffiness," said Tanno.

Editor's note: We're also big fans of the Clé de Peau Beauté Intensive Brightening Mask, which helps make sun and age spots look far less noticeable.

Moisturizer for sensitive skin
"My trusty moisturizer of choice has always been Embryolisse. It's perfect for makeup prep and even works on the most sensitive skin. I always keep this in tow and in-flight," said Tanno.

You can also get this at Target.

Must have mascara
"This mascara delivers mega volume and length. This mascara does it all for me, and you can apply as many coats as you need for the desired look. Gaga and I love it because it gives the drama we like but also doesn’t flake throughout a long day," said Tanno, who is a Marc Jacobs Beauty global artistry ambassador.
Velvet Noir Major Volume Mascara, $26, Sephora
Editor's note: We also love this $9 favorite from L'Oreal for volume and length that lasts all day.

To keep Gaga's mouth oh-so smooth and plump, Tanno relies on another beloved product that goes under her lipstick.
