A teen fashion blogger who is battling cancer received a belated Christmas gift when she got a knock on her front door from a surprise visitor – supermodel Gisele Bundchen.
Karina Moreira, 15, who runs the blog Chic by Karina, posted pictures on Instagram after the Brazilian fashion icon, 33, paid her an unexpected visit on Dec. 26. Moreira, who was born in Brazil, lives in Malden, Mass., not far from the Boston home Bundchen shares with husband Tom Brady of the New England Patriots. In 2011, Moreira was diagnosed with bone cancer in her right leg. It initially was in remission after being treated but has returned, resulting in more chemotherapy treatments for Moreira.
“From the moment you surprised me, until the moment you left, I was so shocked,’’ Moreira wrote on Instagram. “Thank you so much for taking time off of your day to come visit me and spend some time with me! Also thank you for your kind words and your very meaningful gifts! You are a great person and you will keep inspiring me.”
The two first met in 2011 at a Dana Farber Cancer Institute event in Boston after Moreira had been diagnosed. Bundchen dropped in for a surprise visit this week to support Moreira, who is currently on a hiatus from ninth grade, in her fight against cancer. The two also traded beauty tips, put on makeup, and shared some cheese bread. (TODAY.com reached out to Moreira for comment, but she was not immediately available.)
"It was a pleasure to see you again @chicbykarina,'' Bundchen tweeted. "You are [a] warrior, an inspiration of positivity and courage."
Moreira first got into fashion while being treated for cancer in 2011 and decided to start her own blog to make girls her age "feel beautiful no matter what," according to a video posted on her site.
