Fall fashion trend: The maxi dress is now a year-round staple

Channel your inner bohemian by wearing a maxi dress all this fall like Nikki Reed on TODAY Monday.

We had immediate outfit envy as soon as Nikki Reed joined TODAY Monday to chat with Kathie Lee and Hoda.

The actress looked absolutely stunning in a periwinkle, graphic print maxi dress and was right on trend for fall. The dress' fluttery sleeve, peasant-style top and longer hemline give it a bohemian flare and made it the perfect transitional piece as we head into cooler months.

What's great about Reed's outfit choice is that it's so versatile. She pairs it with a neutral heeled sandal, which works really well for early fall. But as the temperature drops, she can still easily wear this dress by changing up her shoes and adding a jacket. We could see her pairing it with brown booties and a leather jacket or fur vest as we head into October. She could even add a neutral pump and wear it on a date night with her new hubby Ian Somerhalder. Or, for a more casual weekend look, she could wear a pair of simple white sneakers with it. The options are endless!

The sleeve is what really helps this maxi go from summer to fall. Whether it's a fluttery version like Reed's or just a blouse-y long sleeve, invest in a maxi with arms to get the most use out of your dress. The added sleeve also gives the dress more polish, making it entirely office appropriate.

We also love that Reed's dress has a cinched waist. Patterns can easily become overwhelming on any body type, but the defined waist adds shape and prevents it from becoming a sea of color. Look for a maxi dress that has either an elastic waist, ribbon tie or wrap style to hug the waist and add definition. If not, you can also always add a simple thin belt at the smallest point of your waist.

Reed's flawless look comes courtesy of Duchess Kate-favorite L.K. Bennett and her shoes are by high-end designer Tamara Mellon.

But just because Reed's look is expensive, doesn't mean you can't recreate it for less. We found 10 great maxi dresses that you'll want to wear all season long. With a variety of patterns and colors, you can find the right boho look to match your own personal style.
