Enjoy ‘dress’ing up this fall season!

Forget those shirt and pant combos. “Today” style editor Judy Gordon highlights the best dresses in the most popular styles of the season.

Great news! The dress is back in a big way this season, and that means it'll be twice as easy for you to get “dressed.” Some of the best are right here in the latest edition of The Trend Report!

Wrap starDiane von Furstenberg pioneered the easy “wrap dress” more than 30 years ago, and it has never looked better. New from the DVF archives is the black and white print, re-issued for fall 2005 ($298 from DianevonFurstenberg.com). Why has the dress become a staple in every stylish woman's wardrobe? Just wrap one on and see for yourself — it's super flattering for most body types.

You'll find lots of re-interpretations of this style, but if you want to spring for the real deal, rest assured — it's been in style for 30 years and you'll wear it forever.

Boy + girlThe menswear look is big for fall and, naturally, dresses follow suit. We love the look of a menswear tweed made feminine in a sophisticated, slim shape with a right-on-trend flared hemline ($79 from Ann Taylor Loft). It's the perfect partner for all your favorite fall accessories — dress it up with a velvet belt, add a faux crocodile-textured handbag and a pair of pumps ... or string on layers of pearls or bead and charm necklaces.

Be careful with graphic, high-contrast menswear patterns such as black and white tweed — they can add on the pounds. A darker, more neutral pattern is a more flattering choice.

New jersey
One of the hottest dress fabrications this fall is slimming, comfortable, sexy jersey. You'll find jersey dresses in a multitude of styles for both day and evening. Whether wrapped, tied or draped, you can bet the look is chic and graceful. We love the trendy, empire-style dress ($108 from Maggie London) — the new day-into-evening essential.

The empire silhouette is flattering on many figure types as it emphasizes the bust and skims the lower half of the body.

The little black dressHow could we survive without the LBD? We couldn't. But every once in a while, we can take a new look at this fashion staple and see how we can spice things up. This season, the LBD is hot, and it looks newest in feminine, flirtatious, fit-and-flare silhouettes, like empire and baby doll styles. Stock up now — you'll wear your new LBD for years to come!

Check out Target.com for Isaac Mizrahi's take on the Little Black Dress — there are several styles from which to choose and at these prices  ($23.99), you can buy more than one!

Something wildThe hot print this season is just a little wild — animal prints and patterns of all stripes and spots are back. If you're looking for an evening dress or something especially trendy to add to your wardrobe, then take a walk on the “wild side” in one of these fun prints. We love the easy evening dress from MICHAEL Michael Kors in a hot leopard print ($179 at major department stores) — so chic!

A classic animal pattern in “natural” colors is a sophisticated choice that's always in style — go wild!
