Bridal fashion designer Vera Wang and her husband, businessman Arthur Becker, have announced that they are separating after 23 years of marriage.
Wang, 63, and Becker, 61, dated for nine years before marrying in 1989, and have two daughters named Cecilia and Josephine. Wang is (obviously) known for her wedding gowns and Michelle Obama-approved creations, and Becker was previously a stockbroker at Bear Stearns and CEO of NaviSite, an internet and e-commerce service provider.
Becker reportedly helped his wife grow her business into a globally renowned label, and after resigning as CEO from NaviSite two years ago, he became even more involved in her company. Sources tell Women’s Wear Daily he pushed Wang into doing wider collaborations (she has several collections with Kohl’s and David’s Bridal), and the company was also purportedly divided between a Wang faction and a Becker faction.
While Wang and Becker haven’t commented on the break-up, president of Wang’s company Mario Grauso released a a statement:
“Vera Wang and Arthur Becker have mutually and amicably agreed to separate. They remain devoted parents to their two daughters.”
An unnamed friend also tells WWD that the separation will not affect Wang’s business:
“They will not let this impact the running of the company. They have worked too hard to build it up.”
