Nail art has been a huge trend for a while, but now, one nail artist decided to bring it to a whole new level.

For the Creatures of Comfort presentation at New York Fashion Week, Korean nail artist Unistella placed metallic tabs on the models’ cuticles and the beauty world went wild.

Embellished cuticles, also known as "shadow nails," are a minimalist look that have a big impact. They — quite literally — extend nail art beyond the nail!

We’ve all been guilty of ignoring our cuticles from time to time, but they could soon become the star attraction for nail art lovers. It’s a simple and subtle look that even rookies can try to recreate, celebrity nail tech Elle told TODAY.

“The cuticle art trend has popped in and out of nail art style since the ‘80s. It's not only the perfect way to reflect your personality, but it is also a fun and quirky manicure idea that's easy to recreate at home," Elle explained.

"Using eyelash glue or another nail adhesive, glue rhinestones or studs at the cuticle for an edgy-glam look," she suggested. "Or you can also avoid glue altogether and opt for temporary henna or flash tattoos along your hands. You can then replicate the pattern of the tattoo onto your nails, so the design flows literally from skin to nail.” Stickers on our cuticles? That’s just about our nail art skill level!
