Get Stuff We Love
If you're trying step up your beauty game in the new year, you won't have to look far for the best products.
Augusta Falletta, BuzzFeed’s health and beauty editor, stopped by TODAY Tuesday to share the site’s best beauty products of 2015.
And don't forget to check out the best drugstore products of the year with People and TODAY Beauty Awards winners!
The key to picking the most suitable red is to match it to the undertones in your skin. Try holding silver and gold jewelry up to your arm and see which looks best, Falletta suggested.
If silver looks best, you’re good with products with cool undertones, like the blueish-red tint of MAC's Ruby Woo shade. If gold is the better choice, grab a red with warm, brown-orange undertones, like the brand's color Chili.
“It’s kind of what I like to call ‘my lips but better,’ which is just a little touch of something,” Falletta said. “It looks like a stain but it feels like a balm on.”
“If you want to get that matte lipstick finish you can actually put this over whatever lipstick you’re wearing and it will make it matte,” Falletta said.
If you’re looking for something a little different, try this mascara in purple.
“It’s not a crazy purple so if the light catches it, you’ll be able to tell that it’s purple and you’ll get tons of compliments,” Falletta said. “It’s amazing.”
If you’re going purple, keep your lid color neutral with browns and taupes, she recommended. “It’s a really nice, subtle look,” she added.
“It’s high volume so it’s perfect if you have thinner, shorter lashes and you really want to really amp up the size,” Falletta said. “It has a tiny wand to really get into crevices and get the inner corners.”
Also, it’s water resistant, so it won’t smudge if you tear up on a windy day or find yourself in any other “light-crying scenario.”
Boy Brow is like a pomade that you brush on to fill out the eyebrow. The Brow Wiz has a pencil on one side for shaping and filling in bare spots and a brush at the other end.
“You can use them together, and it makes it look super natural,” Falletta said.
“You put it under your eyes and it reflects light so you don’t have dark circles, and then over time, it works on fine lines and wrinkles,” Falletta said.
“It just melts into your skin,” Falletta said. “It doesn’t feel grimy or slimy on your skin at all. It’s amazing.”
“You put it anywhere on your face that the light naturally hits and it acts as a highlighter and it just gives you like an Instagram filter in real life,” Falletta said. Apply with your fingers to the top of your cheekbones, the center of your nose or the top of your forehead and “it’s like instant strobing,” she said.
“It’s like a light BB cream,” Falletta said. “You put it on with your fingers and you can run out the door and it doesn’t even look like you’re wearing makeup. It just covers over everything.”
With these products on our shopping list, here’s to another year full of top-notch beauty.
