During her visit to the "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon" on Thursday, the 31-year-old actress hilariously recounted how mortified she was when the shirt she wore to the New York City premiere of her new thriller, "A Simple Favor," turned out to be see-through!
"See the look of horror on my face?" the actress asked Fallon as he showed a photo of her at the event. "I didn't realize it was see-through, the shirt. So that's not a look that I was going for because it's a men's shirt. I didn't know they made see-through (men's shirts)."
Lively made the embarrassing realization shortly before she and hubby Ryan Reynolds were to leave for the event.
"So, I'm in my hotel and I call and I say, 'Hey, can I have, like, the mechanical department? ... I need duct tape quick.'"
The hotel's front desk offered packing tape, but that was no good. "That's see-through," Lively recalled thinking. "I'm just going to walk around with crunchy sounding cha-chas."
With no other options, the actress wore the shirt. But the fear of exposing herself made her a nervous wreck all night.
"You know when you're freaking out about something ... you're aware of it, so everything everyone says is pointing out this thing that you're paranoid about that no one's really noticing?" she asked.
Lively's preoccupation with her shirt even caused her to mishear what people were saying to her.
"I'm on the red carpet and this guy goes, 'Blake, Blake, your tweets are amazing.' And I was like, wait, excuse me?"
The man repeated himself, which only shocked Lively more. "Are we saying that? Like, have you been on Google in the past year? Like, this is not okay,'" she recalled thinking.
Then, the woman next to the man agreed, telling Lively, "Well, I mean they are,' before adding, "Your husband's tweets are even better!"
That's when the social media-savvy star finally understood what the pair was telling her.
"I was like, 'Oh tweets! Twitter! My tweets!" she realized, happily. "My tweets are amazing!"
