Beauty buyers everywhere swear by their go-to favorites, but the best-of-the-best list for 2013 includes some must-have newcomers.
InStyle magazine, which spends six months every year surveying pros of the beauty business about their favorite beauty treatments, announced which products made the best-of list for 2013 Thursday on TODAY.
The list is compiled from of a survey of 150 experts in the beauty world, including dermatologists and hair stylists, makeup pros and manicurists. Kahlana Barfield, InStyle's beauty editor, gave some pointers on how to use some of the products featured on InStyle's best beauty buys list:
Best Lipstick: Tom Ford Beauty Lip Color, ($48.00, nordstrom.com) has taken over the lipstick market. Made with exotic butter and oils, it will also stay put throughout the day.
Best 2-in-1 for Cheeks: Urban Decay Naked Flushed Palette ($30; sephora.com) is perfect for busy ladies rushing out the door who need a compact for a quick makeup refresh.
Best Self-Tanner: Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Glow Pads ($45; sephora.com) exfoliate as they tan, creating a natural glow that never looks fake and orange-y. Bonus: each towelette includes vitamin D for hydration.
Best Special Effects Polish: Nails Inc. Magnetic Polish ($16; sephora.com) is the perfect way to get the DIY nail art look. The polish has a magnet on the cap that creates a holographic effect when it's held over a wet nail. "We like it because it's sophisticated, it's not like wearing nail stickers or polka dots," said Kahlana Barfield, InStyle's beauty editor.
Best Styling Product: John Frieda Frizz-Ease Sheer ($10; cvs.com) is an extra-light serum that kills frizz on contact, and it's especially helpful for people with oily or fine hair.
