If you're not looking to the far reaches of your own mother's closet for fashion inspiration, you're missing out on the trend of the moment.

Exhibit A: Olympian Aly Raisman has just become the latest fashionable daughter to don a vintage look from her mom's closet for a big night. Over the weekend, she shared side-by-side snaps on Instagram, showing herself on the right in a black gown, alongside her mother on the left wearing the same look in the late '90s.

She tagged her mama, Lynn, in her caption, writing, “Playing dress up in my moms closet and we found a gown that my mom wore 20 years ago SO I wore it last night. Like mother like daughter.”

No kidding! The pair look alike rocking the spaghetti-strapped frock, decorated with a pattern of white flowers cascading the full length of the dress from the bustline right down to the floor.

Whereas her mom accessorized her look with strands of pearls and black shoes, the 23-year-old modernized the look with strappy sandals, a minimalist necklace and a sleek, elegant topknot — a signature look for the athlete.

The gymnast is the latest and most high-profile example of a trend dominating social media these days: younger women rediscovering and proudly rocking their mothers’ dresses from a previous generation — in particular, for sentimental events such as proms and other occasions.

And this is one trend we can absolutely get behind: Sweet, nostalgic, environmentally conscious, budget-friendly and right on trend — what’s not to love?
