For many guys, their wardrobe is the last thing on their mind. It might be a matter of grabbing a shirt that's not wrinkled, some clean slacks, a pair of socks (perhaps matching), slip-on shoes and heading out the door.
Those of us hoping our man might update his look, it's not exactly easy to get him to try out new things when it comes to the style department.
Andrew Powell, vice president of men's merchandising for Gilt.com, stopped by TODAY to share tips for getting your man to step outside of his comfort zone. Powell has three different looks for your guy that will make getting dressed for the office, date night and even lazy Sundays a breeze.

Trade in sloppy sweats for a trendy athleisure look.
For men, we know that comfort is everything, and what's more comfortable than baggy sweatpants? But just because something is comfortable doesn't mean it has to be sloppy, and that's where the latest athleisure trend comes into the picture. Athletic wear like jogging pants and sweatshirts are trendy, but instead of being oversized and baggy, they are tailored, creating a more put-together look.
Powell paired joggers with a simple T-shirt and neutral colored bomber. Instead of running shoes, he added leather slip-on sneakers, which are still comfortable, but help pull the look together to make it more appropriate for multiple occasions. Think about wearing this everywhere from brunch to running weekend errands to catching an early morning flight.

Dress for success with a fitted shirt and suit.
Grabbing a button-down shirt and heading out the door is the easiest fix for work wear. However, when it comes to wearing a button-down, it's not uncommon to see guys choosing slightly oversized options that are probably outdated. While comfortable, the ill-fitting shirt sends the wrong message when it comes to office wear.Instead of looking professional, it gives off a casual, sloppy vibe.

For a modern approach to office wear, Powell suggests trading in the shirt that billows for one with a slimmer cut, which will instantly give your man's outfit a cooler, more professional vibe. He also recommends pairing it with a slim-fit suit, helping create a more tailored look that's sophisticated and office appropriate.

Retire the old leather jacket for a bomber and down vest combo.
That old, worn-in leather jacket might be your man's favorite go-to as soon as the temperatures drop, but as fall rolls around, it's time to put that jacket into retirement. Your man doesn't have to give up leather completely; he can get more use out of the items in his closet with the double outerwear trend that's been hitting the runways.
Powell advises not giving up the leather jacket completely, but instead going for a modern version like a fitted bomber. You can get the same luxe look with a faux leather jacket as well, making it even easier on the wallet. He then suggests layering a lightweight down vest underneath giving the jacket a modern twist that's still comfortable and practical. It's sure to keep your man warm even as the temperatures continue to drop. If your guy adds a pair of jeans and his favorite T-shirt or button-down, this look can easily be worn for a night out.
