Ain't too proud to beg

Dogs, wearing hats and sunglasses, are used by their owner to beg for coins in Manila on July 22, 2010. The Philippine government said it would give money directly to poor families in an effort to fight a sharp rise in the number of Filipinos enduring severe hunger. President Benigno Aquino's new administration said it wanted to act after a survey released reported that about 780,000 families in the Philippines, 4.2 percent of the total, felt hunger "often or always". The name game

Jul 20, 2010 - Rome, Italy - A five day old baby Zebra has been introduced to visitors at a zoo in Rome. The adorable foal was on his feet within just a few hours of being born at the Rome Bioparco Zoo. And he finally met his public this week, as he braved 34 degree Celsius heat and proudly showed off his brown stripes as he posed for photos with his mum Wendy and dad Chucky. But the little Zebra has not yet been given a name, so the zoo is launching an internet competition to encourage people to send in their suggestions before a name is chosen later this month. Respect your elders

A box elder beetle, right, stands next to the empty molted shell from a cicada on a fence post near Elkton. Most cicadas go through a life cycle that lasts from two to five years. Some species have much longer life cycles, such as the North American genus, Magicicada, which has a number of distinct "broods" that go through either a 17-year or, in the South of the USA, a 13-year life cycle. Nom nom nom

Jul 22, 2010 - London, England, United Kingdom - This ambitous bird clearly has eyes too big for its belly as it falls over trying to swallow an enormous fish in one gulp. The hungry baby Tern had waited patiently for a meal caught for him by his mother, so when it arrived, wasted no time in trying to gobble the enormous fish supper in one gulp. But the tiny creature struggled to swallow the bluefish and toppled over under its weight. Mother wasn't impressed. She starred down at the floored fledgling shaking her head before watching as the little one eventually finished its meal. (Credit Image: © Jim Gilbert/Caters News/
