Chef notes

Shakshuka is my favorite dish because it is versatile and easy to make. You can eat it for brunch or dinner, it is packed with vitamins and proteins and is very flavorful. It's a delicious comfort food. Traditional shakshuka is usually made with tomatoes, but here at Tsion Cafe, we have taken it to a different level with a sauce that includes Ethiopian-spiced vegetables.

Technique tip: To expedite the cooking of the shakshuka, I recommend covering it. The longer it cooks, the less runnier the yolk.

Ingredients

  • 1 recipe Tsion's Salsa Dip (recipe linked above)
  • 4-6 eggs
  • crumbled feta cheese, to garnish
  • chopped cilantro, to garnish
  • pita bread or injera, to serve

Preparation

1.

In a large, deep pan or iron-cast skillet over medium heat, add Tsion's Salsa Dip and warm until it reaches a simmer, stirring occasionally.

2.

Create 4 to 6 holes in the sauce and crack and egg into each.

3.

Cover the pan and cook the eggs to taste.

4.

Garnish with feta and cilantro. Serve with pita bread or injera.
