  • Chef notes

I'm a huge fan of the salty/sweet combo, and these cookies knock that flavor profile out of the park. They're called garbage cookies because you basically empty out all your junk food into the dough and call it a day...a good day.

Technique tip: Chilling the dough before baking will prevent your cookies from spreading out and becoming flat.

Swap option: You can definitely experiment with different types of chocolate, you can use peanut butter chips instead of butterscotch chips and rice cereal or corn flakes instead of potato chips. The possibilities are endless!

    Preparation

    1.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    2.

In a bowl, beat butter and both sugars at medium speed with an electric mixer until light and creamy. Add eggs and vanilla, and beat until combined.

    3.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture, beating just until blended.

    4.

Add chocolate chips, butterscotch chips, potato chips and pretzels, and stir until combined.

    5.

Cover dough with plastic wrap and chill for 30 minutes.

    6.

Using an ice cream scoop, place dough onto the baking sheet about 2 inches apart from each other. Bake for 12 minutes. Cool before serving.
