Ingredients

  • 6 medium-sized beets
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 cup water
  • Chef notes

    Beets have a very long shelf life. Plus, they're affordable and healthy, and you can make just about anything with them at a moment's notice.

    Technique tip: Adding water (just about a 1/2 inch) will create steam which expedites the cooking process.

    Preparation

    1.

    Season beets with salt and place in a large rectangular pan with water and cover with foil.

    2.

    Bake at 350°F until tender, about 1-1½ hours depending on size.

    3.

    When finished, remove foil and let cool enough to handle.

    4.

    Peel beets.
