Chef notes

Add smokiness to your margarita with mezcal, then brighten it up with lime, agave, orange and cucumber, creating layers of flavor and paying homage to the spirit’s native land of Oaxaca.

Technique tip: Chilling the glass creates a colder cocktail and slower dilution.

Ingredients

  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 ounces mezcal
  • 3/4 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce orange juice
  • 1/2 ounce agave

Preparation

1.

Place rocks or margarita glass in the freezer while preparing the cocktail.

2.

Using a vegetable peeler, make 2 ribbons with the cucumber.

3.

Create the letter "S" using a skewer with one ribbon.

4.

Add the other ribbon to the cocktail shaker with a pinch of cinnamon and lightly muddle.

5.

Add all liquid and ice.

6.

Shake until cold, for 10 seconds.

7.

Grab chilled glass from the freezer and add fresh ice.

8.

Strain shaken contents into the chilled ice glass. Garnish with skewered cucumber ribbon.
