Chef notes

The cocktail is a twist on the classic lemon drop cocktail with the addition of Meyer lemon. It's a great way to celebrate the start of citrus season. Rimming the glass with sugar adds an elegant sparkle to the cocktail. You can also batch out the cocktail in advance but shake right before serving so that each cocktail has shards of ice in the glass. A final squeeze of Meyer lemon zest adds a bright and fragrant note to the cocktail.

Ingredients

Meyer Lemon Peel Soi Syrup
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 6 strips Meyer lemon zest
Cocktail
  • 2 ounces vodka, preferably Belvedere
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed meyer lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce Meyer Lemon Peel Simple Syrup (recipe above)
  • 1/2 ounce orange liqueur, preferably Cointreau
  • sugar rim and meyer lemon peel on a pick, to garnish

Preparation

For the Meyer lemon syrup:

Combine sugar, water and zest strips in a saucepan. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Turn off heat and let syrup cool before using.

For the cocktail:

1.

Rim glass in simple syrup and granulated sugar.

2.

Fill shaker with ice, vodka, Meyer lemon juice, Meyer lemon simple syrup and Cointreau. Shake for at least 60 shakes, until extra cold. Strain into prepared coupe glass; there should be shards of ice in the drink.

3.

Express Meyer lemon peel over drink and place on pick for garnish.
