Ingredients

  • 1 apple, peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1 banana, diced or 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • Cinnamon, to taste
  • cups water, plus more as needed
  • 1 cup 1-minute oats
  • Almond milk, for serving (optional)
  • Chef notes

This was the first homemade oatmeal I tried and Calvin loved it! When I made Calvin’s homemade baby food, I used to roast apples and bananas with a sprinkle of cinnamon and purée it together. I’d repurpose that purée to sweeten up plain Greek yogurt. Then I thought it could also be a good base for oatmeal, and I added raisins because, why not?

    Preparation

In a sauté pan set over medium-high heat, add the apples, raisins, banana or brown sugar and cinnamon. Add a large splash of water. Cover and cook on low until apples are softened and raisins are plump. Add the water and bring to a boil. Add oatmeal, lower heat and cook 1 minute. Add an optional splash of almond milk to serve.
