Chef notes

On days when I can't light my outdoor griddle to make sliders, these are what I make. They are so much better than regular burgers.

Swap option: Swap any ground protein and cheeses of choice.

  • 4 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or grated
  • 1 pinch Italian seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small yellow onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon steak seasoning or seasoning of choice
  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese
  • 1 (12 count) pack Hawaiian rolls
  • 1/4 pound American cheese, or more to taste
  • 1 splash Worcestershire sauce
  • everything bagel seasoning (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350 F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, add the butter, garlic and Italian seasoning; set aside.

In a skillet, add the olive oil, preheat over medium heat (between medium and medium-high) and once the oil is shimmering, add the beef and start browning it. Once it's about three-quarters of the way cooked, discard some of the fat, if need be, and add the onion and steak seasoning.

Cook the beef and onions until the beef is cooked all the way through and the onions have softened, remove from the heat, add the cream cheese, stir it in and set aside.

Cut the rolls horizontally all together, fan open, brush with some of the butter just on the bottom cut side, add the beef, top with the American cheese, and put the tops on. To the butter mixture, add a splash of Worcestershire, then brush this mixture all over the top and sprinkle over some everything bagel seasoning.

Cover with foil, bake for 15 minutes, then remove the foil and bake for 10 more minutes. Allow to cool a bit before cutting and serving with desired toppings.
