A great margarita is nothing without lime! This homemade lime simple syrup hits all the notes you want from a stellar margarita.

Technique tip: To give this mocktail even more of margarita flavor, add a salted rim to the glass before pouring in the drink.

Ingredients

Lime Simple Syrup
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 lime, zested
Limeade
  • 3/4 ounce lime simple syrup
  • 1 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 5 ounces soda water
  • Fresh mint, for garnish

Preparation

For the lime simple syrup:

Combine ingredients in a saucepan and heat on medium until sugars dissolve. You can store it, covered, up to two weeks.

For the limeade:

Combine with ice in a shaker, strain into a rocks glass over ice.
