Chef notes

If you're a fan of baklava, the flaky Greek dessert made of filo dough, butter, nuts and honey, then you should give my Baklava popcorn a shot. It has all the same flavors but for a fraction of the calories. Plus, it's a cinch to make.

Makes 7 servings; 1½ cups popcorn per serving; 160 calories per serving

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup chopped walnuts (or pecans)
  • 10 cups light popcorn
  • 1/4 teaspoon sea salt

Preparation

In a small, glass mixing bowl, add honey and butter and microwave for about 30 seconds until butter is melted. (*Before adding honey to measuring cup, mist with nonstick cooking spray to prevent honey from sticking). When honey-butter mixture is well combined, add vanilla extract and cinnamon, stir and set aside.

Lay chopped walnuts on baking sheet and lightly toast in the oven or toaster oven.

Drizzle honey mixture over popcorn, tossing as you drizzle to ensure it's evenly distributed through the popcorn batch. Sprinkle on the pecans and sea salt. Enjoy!
