- 1 small banana
- One 3.5-ounce package frozen açaí pulp, or 2 tablespoons acai powder
- 1 cup frozen mixed berries
- 3/4 cup nut milk or coconut milk
- 1 tablespoon honey or agave syrup, if desired
- Sliced strawberries
- Diced mango
- Sliced kiwi
- Unsweetened coconut flakes
In the past few years, Brazilian açaí bowls have hit the big-time in the United States, jumping from trendy cafes to national smoothie chains. But beware: Restaurant and store-bought açaí bowls can be loaded with added sugar.
So why not get your açaí fix at home with this easy recipe that you can sweeten to your own personal taste. With the natural sweetness of the tropical fruits, you might not need any added sweetener at all!
Peel and slice the banana into large chunks. Place on a wax paper-lined baking sheet and freeze until solid, at least 1 hour.
Add the frozen banana, açaí pulp or powder, berries, milk, and honey or agave (if using) to a high-powered blender such as a Vitamix.
Blend on low speed and slowly increase to medium speed, using the tamper to make sure all ingredients are pureed to a smooth, soft-serve frozen yogurt consistency.
Pour the puree into a serving bowl, using a spatula to scrape as much as possible out of the blender.
Top with sliced fruit and coconut flakes. Serve immediately.
