American Idol favorite Pia Toscano is voted off --and voted off early. Let the conspiracy theories begin!

Well, OK, then here we go...

RELATED: Remember the other times Idol shocked?

Usual Suspect No. 1: The show did it!

You know the drill: Idol cut phone lines, rerouted texts and/or deployed a squadron of black helicopters to silence all of Pia's supporters--something insidious like that to get the show to No. 1. (Oh, wait, the show already is No. 1...?)

Unusual Suspect No. 2: Pia did it!

Tired of being called a front-runner (the nerve!), and strutting her stuff on a mega-hit show week after week (the bother!), she deliberately sabatoged her chances by wearing a totally distracting necklace that totally distracted her supporters. (Take that, black helicopters!)

A tad far-fetched? Since Toscano talked and sang like a person who was in it to win it, this theory is very far-fetched.

One thing: Toscano did tell reporters Friday she had a feeling after Wednesday night's performance that she was " going to be in the bottom three." We think this could be an admission that she herself was distracted by that totally distracting necklace.

Usual Suspect No. 3: Vote for the Worst did it!

At least that's what the Idol-antagonizing site would like to think.

Unusual Suspect No. 4: Pia's team did it!

For starters, Idol contestants don't have teams, but if they did, would an evil-genius manager, believing it best for his or her client to be off the show and out in the real earning world, actively plot for said client's ouster?

"That would be a great PR tactic, and I wouldn't put it past some people," Manhattan publicist Kelly Brady told us.

Brady, however, is not some people.

"I personally think there's a value to staying on the show," Brady said. "It's that much more camera time."

Usual Suspect No. 5: America did it!

Sorry, folks, but consider yourselves guilty. This is the most plausible explanation.

Still, the question remains: Why'd you do it? Why'd you forsake Toscano?

On Ryan Seacrest's radio show Friday, Jennifer Lopez speculated that complacency was the killer.

"The only thing I can think was that people thought she was safe, as I did," the still-bewildered-sounding judge said. "I thought she'd be around 'til the Top 5, maybe the Top 2."

Well, if it's any solace to Toscano, at least the black helicopters didn't get her.
