'Trainwreck' hits theaters: 8 reasons star Amy Schumer is anything but

/ Source: TODAY

"Trainwreck" marks Amy Schumer's first starring role in a feature film (Schumer also wrote the film) — but we've been fans of the comedian since she first became famous for her fresh, fearless brand of humor.

Here are eight reasons we can't get enough of the 34-year-old star. (And for more fun with Schumer, be sure to check out her visit to TODAY on Thursday morning.)

1. She knows her self-worth isn't tied to her waist size

"I think it's good to see somebody saying: I have a belly. And I have cellulite. And I still deserve love," she recently told Glamour.

2. In fact, she had the perfect response to body-shaming

After a film writer slammed "Trainwreck" in February, calling Schumer "chubby" and claiming "there's no way she'd be an object of heated romantic interest in the real world," she told USA Today, "From the bottom of my heart — I could not care less." She then took to Twitter to declare, "I am a size 6 and have no plans of changing. This is it. Stay on or get off. Kisses!"

3. She knows that airbrushed does not equal sexy

"I want to especially thank @EW for not airbrushing me," she tweeted after posing (nearly) nude for the cover of Entertainment Weekly. "Thank you. Proud size 6 yo!" she added.

4. Little Amy was seriously adorable

Schumer recently shared footage of her childhood self belting out a charming rendition of "Like a Prayer" to announce she'd be opening for Madonna on the New York City dates of the Material Girl's "Rebel Heart" tour.

5. She can make Matt Lauer blush

We apologize, this video has expired.

"I'll get up and in a 15-minute set have one joke about sex sometimes but they're still like, 'Oh, the sex comic.' But then a guy will come up and like literally take his [bleep] out onstage and it'll be like, 'He's a thinker; let's give him a show,'" she told Lauer during a TODAY interview in April. Lauer, laughing, replied, "I'm just imagining if that even has a shot at making it on morning TV."

6. Her spoofs are always spot-on

We particularly loved "Girl, You Don't Need Makeup," a parody of boy-band pop and media's messages about loving women without makeup that she debuted on an "Inside Amy Schumer" episode in April.

7. She's clearly enjoying the perks of her fame

"I got a free appetizer at TGI Fridays at Penn Station," she raved to Savannah Guthrie this week. "Yeah, they were like, 'Hey, we got you,' and they gave me pot stickers!"

8. She "tells the truth"

On TODAY earlier this week, "Trainwreck" director Judd Apatow said of Schumer, "I think the best comedians are very forthcoming and brutally frank, and she's crazy hilarious."

We couldn't agree more.
