'Toy Story' series is packed with laughs, scares

The "Toy Story" trilogy has been released numerous times on DVD and it's already had a Blu-ray release. But on Nov. 1, all three "Toy Story" films are coming out in a gigantic combo pack, featuring DVD and Blu-ray digital copies and Blu-ray 3-D copies. And I'll take any excuse to write about these wonderful films, which, as the mom of a preschooler, I've seen approximately eleventy billion times each.

Here are my favorite moments from all three movies.

'Toy Story'

Funniest moment:
When Woody, stuck in Sid's house, tries to convince Andy's toys that he and Buzz are pals by waving Buzz's arm. But it popped off when Buzz tried to fly, and Andy's horrified toys think Woody murdered the space ranger. Runner up: When Buzz climbs inside the toy crane machine at Pizza Planet and tries to lead the aliens.

Scariest moment: When Buzz and Woody are in toy-torturing neighbor Sid's room and Woody's convinced the mutant toys are going to eat them. Thankfully, they're just misfits, and they all team up to teach that nasty Sid a lesson.

Best line: "Gee, I better shave!" shouts Mr. Potato Head, popping off his mustache upon learning a Mrs. Potato Head is on her way.

'Toy Story 2'

Funniest moment:
When the toys, hidden under traffic cones, try to cross the street to rescue Woody and pals, causing numerous car accidents. Slinky Dog requires two cones — one for his head, and one for his butt. "Toy Story" is a funny series throughout, but this wonderfully choreographed scene might be the funniest in all three films.

Scariest moment: Woody frees Jessie from the suitcase on the flight to Japan and they're about to jump off. But the baggage carriers slam the door early and they appear trapped — until Woody opens a hatch above the landing gear and they climb down while the plane taxis. It's an escape straight outta "Die Hard," and Buzz and Bullseye show up in the nick of time.

Best line: In the blooper reel at the end of the film, Buzz Lightyear burps inside his box while on a shelf of other Buzz Lightyears. "I don't remember eating that!" he shouts, as the other Buzzes moan. Runner-up: A lecherous Prospector is seen macking on two identical Barbies. "You know, I'm sure I can get you a part in 'Toy Story 3,'" he slyly hints.

'Toy Story 3'

Funniest moment:
When Barbie tortures Ken by ripping up his enormous wardrobe of outfits. He can stand it when she tears his glitter tux, but when she moves on to his 1967 Nehru jacket, he's willing to tell her anything she needs to know. Runner-up: Buzz courts Jessie the cowgirl in Spanish mode. Ole!

Scariest moment: It's the scariest moment in all three movies, by far. The toys have been taken to the trash dump and are on a moving belt heading towards an enormous fire. There seems to be no way out, so they hold hands and wait for their fate. The aliens swoop in with their magic claw knowledge to save them just in time, but until then, things look horribly grim for our favorite toys.

Best line: "I told you kids to stay outta my butt!" Mr. Potato Head delivers this version of "Stay offa my lawn!" to the cute giggly little Peas-in-a-Pod toys, and Don Rickles' delivery works whether you're 4 or 84. But the most tear-jerking line has to be when Andy heads off at long last to college, and Woody, although happy in his new home with Bonnie and the other toys, softly says "So long, partner."
