Top 10 newsmakers of 2005

From the breakup Jessica and Nick to the love between Tom and Katie
/ Source: Access Hollywood

2005 was quite a year in Hollywood. We saw everything from Michael wearing his pajamas to court to a "Desperate" catfight and even a pair of "Newlyweds" calling it quits.

Now, Access Hollywood looks back at some of the most frequent newsmakers of the past year.

#5 - Jessica Simpson It was a huge year for Jessica Simpson.

She was a Daisy Duke, she's got her fashion line, she broke up with Nick, and as Billy found out during one interview when he was cut short by Jess' publicist, apparently appearing in 46 Access Hollywood stories this year was enough.

#4 - Tom CruiseWe all know Tom Cruise loves Katie Holmes, as he told us at least 49 times – well, actually that's how many times he was on Access this year. A coincidence? We think not.

And who could forget his feud with Brooke Shields over her use of a prescription drugs to overcome postpartum depression. Oh, did we mention he loves Katie?

#3 - Britney SpearsFor Britney Spears, 2005 was all about baby. Relentlessly pursued by the paparazzi as she went through her pregnancy, the pop princess-turned-mommy racked up 51 stories this year on Access.

The hype began before the pregnancy announcement when a brunette Brit showed up to promote her perfume "Curious" in a flowy baby doll dress and jeans, culminating September 14 with the birth of baby Sean Preston Federline.

#2 - Eva Longoria
Viva Eva! Need we say more?

There isn't a celeb photographer around that isn't "Desperate" for a shot of the lovely Miss Longoria.

She certainly caught our attention with an impressive 55 stories this year.

And only Billy Bush was invited to Eva's 30th birthday bash in Cabo where they capped off the festivities with shots – of water.

#1 - Michael JacksonBut the top newsmaker for 2005 (drum roll please)….

Who else but Michael Jackson with 77 stories on Access and a child molestation trial that made news around the world.

In the end, of course, it was the jury that found Jackson not guilty of all charges. But the public pressure may have been too much for the King of Pop, driving him into exile.

Michael is now said to be living in Bahrain and may never return to Neverland.

Who will be the stars that drive the headlines in 2006? We'll have to wait and see. But you can be sure Access Hollywood will be there to give you the scoop every step of the way!
