If laughter is indeed the best medicine, Ellen is giving herself a healthy dose in the wake of the Iggy scandal.
One week after her on-air breakdown over the pup, Ellen poked fun at herself as she returned to the air for Tuesday’s show.
“If you haven’t heard what’s been going on with me, welcome back to Earth,” a smiling Ellen said, drawing a laugh from the audience.
Seemingly in good spirits, Ellen continued to make light of the situation, which caused such a frenzy just a week ago.
“No matter how old you are, you constantly learn, which is a good thing. And what I’ve learned is apparently, if you cry on television, people will talk about it,” she joked, before breaking into impressions of people around the globe talking about her tears.
She also attempted to soften the blow of her tear-filled speech from last week, saying that she has always been one prone to breaking down and crying.
“I’ve always cried, since I was a little kid. I’m a sensitive person. I cry. I cry at commercials, I cry at stories, I cry at anything sweet, I cry at babies. I feel better after a good cry, you know?” she told the audience. “What you don’t want to do is keep in a cry because then you get bloated. And then you’ll want to cry because you’re bloated. It’s a vicious cycle.”
Once again making light of the situation, as she continued talking, the camera switched to various members of her crew and her DJ who were all fake sobbing, drawing even more applause and laughter from the crowd.
However, it wasn’t all fun and games during her return to the stage, which was taped on Monday and aired on Tuesday.
Later in the show, Ellen brought out representatives from the ASPCA and Petfinder.com with the hopes of shedding a positive light on her dog adoption scandal.
“If there is one good thing that comes out of this situation, I hope it’s that we raise awareness of how many animals out there need rescuing,” she said.
