Sharon Stone is reportedly furious that the lead role in a biopic of Lana Turner has gone to Catherine Zeta-Jones.
The “Basic Instinct” star has been in the running for that part for years — and Turner herself reportedly wanted Stone to play her.
But producers are said to have wanted a younger star to play the late screen goddess, whose daughter, Cheryl Crane, stabbed and killed Turner’s lover, Johnny Stompanato. Turner was 37 at the time; Stone is currently 47. Catherine Zeta-Jones is 36. Producers were also said to be talking to 20-year-old star Scarlett Johansson.
Stone has been quoted as saying that she met Turner shortly before her death from throat cancer in 1995, and the screen goddess told her that if there was ever a movie made about her, she wanted Stone to play her. “I met Lana in her final years and liked her a great deal,” Stone said. “She was every inch the great movie star and we got along really well. She said if there was a film to be made on her life, then I was her choice.”
Britney praying for hurricane victimsAt last, some good news for the victims of Hurricane Katrina: Britney Spears is praying for them.
The “Hit Me Baby One More Time” singer — a native of storm-ravaged Louisiana – posted this message on her Web site:
My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and any other states that might be affected by Hurricane Katrina. All of my family members there are safe and thank you to all my fans for your concern. Love, Britney"
“Thoughts and prayer are all well and good,” says one observer. “But I hope she forks over some serious cash to the relief efforts.”
Notes from all overFormer teen idol Donny Osmond — who became a grandfather last week — has been Botoxed. “I’ve had Botox once,” the 47-year old crooner of 70s hits like “Puppy Love” confessed to the London Express. “Never again. I didn’t like the needles going in, and didn’t like not having my face move. I’d consider cosmetic surgery, but not yet.” . . . More buzz that Madonna plans to appear in a commercial for Motorola. In it, says a source, Madonna dances around a village in a mountain desert while a young man in a phone booth talks to his girlfriend, and “Who’s That Girl” plays. . . .Don’t ask Juliette Lewis any “stupid” questions about her former drug addiction. One fan did and faced her wrath. “Now you have kicked your drug addiction, what do you spend your cash on?” someone asked her in an online chat. “What a stupid question! I did have a drug addiction 10 years ago, but it was never a cocaine addiction so it doesn’t follow that I necessarily spent loads of money on it,” Lewis shot back. “I did do drugs, but cocaine was just not the drug of choice. And anyway, I’m only really little so I actually didn’t consume that many drugs. I never needed much so it was quite a cheap habit! Drug addiction costs much more in how it corrupts the soul than in how it corrupted my bank account.”
