Howard K. Stern made a surprise appearance in a Bahamas courtroom on Monday to testify in the inquest into the death of Anna Nicole Smith’s son, Daniel.

According to our sources, Stern testified for about five minutes around 11 a.m. EST.

Stern was reportedly asked two questions:

  1. Did you know Daniel Smith?
  2. Did you identify the body in the morgue?

Stern was questioned by Neil Brathwaite, a lawyer for the Attorney General’s office.

Before releasing Stern, Bahamas court magistrate William Campbell announced Stern could possibly be called back as a witness at a later date.

Among those in attendance at the hearing head at the Coroner’s Court at Royal Victoria Gardens were Anna Nicole’s mother, Virgie Arthur, and Virgie’s husband, James Arthur.

Daniel Smith died at the age of 20 as he visited his mother, three days after she gave birth to his sister, Dannielynn.

At the time, authorities said he died from a combination of drugs including antidepressants and methadone. An inquest was originally called to determine whether his death was accidental, suicide or homicide.

The court session will continue tomorrow. However, it is expected that at that time, the inquest will be adjourned until sometime in December.
