They're back!

Stephanie March and Diane Neal are returning to "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," revealed Executive Producer Warren Leight. The two actresses had long runs as assistant district attorneys on the show, with March as Alex Cabot and Neal as her successor, Casey Novak. March played Cabot for 89 episodes, and Neal was Novak for 109 episodes.

NBC said that the two would be back for "an undetermined number of episodes" in season 13.

March's Alex Cabot first appeared on the show in 2000, and departed when the character was supposedly killed in a drive-by shooting in the fourth episode of season five in 2003. (It was later revealed during a return appearance that Cabot was actually in Witness Protection. She made several reappearances as Cabot in later seasons.) With her "death," Neal's Novak was introduced as the new ADA. Novak was censured for three years for violating due process on the second episode of season 10, which aired in October 2008.

Last week, NBC announced that "Cold Case" star Danny Pino would be joining the cast as a new detective. The opening came about after long-time star Chris Meloni revealed that he would not be returning as Det. Eliot Stabler in season 13. The network also revealed that "Chase's" Kelli Giddish had been cast as a new female detective. Star Mariska Hargitay had asked for reduced hours for season 13, and her character, Det. Olivia Benson, will be getting a promotion around midseason to allow her less screen time.
