So True? So False? Did the Black Eyed Peas Just Break Up?!

Call it the circle of musical life: you band, you top the charts, you get caught in a hotel fire, you disband.

Call it the circle of musical life: you band, you top the charts, you get caught in a hotel fire, you disband.

And rumors are abounding that the latter eventuality has sounded for the Black Eyed Peas, after will.i.am released into the world a tweet that seemingly spelled the end for the top 10 heavies.

Couple that with Fergie's announcement at the group's final U.K. gig proclaiming, "this is the last time...for a long time," that they'll be performing together, and you don't exactly have the makings of putting fans' minds at ease.

So, is this really The E.N.D. for will.i.am, Fergie, apl.de.ap and Taboo? This ain't just monkey business, we've got a feeling this rumor is...

So false!

Sadly, while they're not breaking up, they are taking a break--and an indefinite one at that. But before you go writing up the Peas' obituary, bear in mind, they've done this before--and came back, four years later, stronger than ever.

"The @Bep will take a break after the beginning...just like we did from monkey business to the e.n.d...but it doesn't mean we stop creating," will.i.am tweeted earlier this month.

And it's not as if they haven't earned it, releasing several albums and embarking on several tours in a row. In fact, it was while performing on their current tour in Staffordshire, England, earlier this month that the band first sparked rumors of a more permanent split.

At the end of the night, Fergie told the crowd that the show was "very special" and called it "the last time we're going to be in England for a long time...We want you to know that we love you and thank you for the support you've given from the beginning," she said.

Perhaps sensing that her goodbye could be slightly misconstrued, Fergie quickly tried to clarify for the crowd.

"This isn't going to be the last time you'll see us," she added.

Just the last time in the foreseeable future. Let the baby rumors and solo efforts begin!
