Fallen actor Tom Sizemore, who was sentenced to six months in jail last year for beating Heidi Fleiss, will portray fallen baseball star Pete Rose in ESPN’s TV movie “Hustle.”
The project, to be directed by Peter Bogdanovich, chronicles Rose’s gambling-related downfall in the 1980s as documented in Major League Baseball’s Dowd Report. Filming is scheduled to begin May 14 in Toronto for a Sept. 25 premiere.
“Tom Sizemore’s ability to play gritty, conflicted characters is his hallmark,” said Mark Shapiro, ESPN executive vp programming and production.
Sizemore, an admitted crystal methamphetamine addict, was convicted last August of domestic violence, making criminal threats and harassing one-time “Hollywood Madam” Fleiss during their stormy one-year relationship. He was sentenced last October and supposed to begin his term in January, but imposition has been delayed by the court and is still pending.
His credits include “Saving Private Ryan,” “Pearl Harbor” and “Black Hawk Down.” He will next be seen in “Paparazzi.”
