Sam Smith burst onto the American music scene earlier this year with his massive hit "Stay With Me" and, in just a matter of months, has become a top hitmaker among teens and adults alike.

That said, the man with the triple platinum album "In the Lonely Hour" is still getting used to performing on TV, as he told TODAY's Matt Lauer Wednesday. The British crooner confessed that he does get some stage fright when he stands in front of a camera.

"Because there's millions and millions of people watching you," he explained, waving "hello" to those millions. "I'm better today; I've done it a few times now so it's getting normal, and you [Lauer] make me feel at ease."

Smith posted a picture of himself on Instagram as he waited in the wings at 30 Rock before his performance. He doesn't show it on his face, but actually he's thrilled:

What a charmer! Be sure to check out the videos of his performances of "I'm Not the Only One" and, of course, "Stay With Me."
