They're not gone. Not really. The World Trade Center towers live on not just in photographs and personal memories, but in dozens of movies shot in New York.

Sometimes they were a pivotal part of the plot ("King Kong"), other times they were just there, sentinels standing guard in the background. Sometimes they went unnoticed, until now, when a movie that's really not that old suddenly seems to belong to another world because of the skyscrapers that no longer exist.

Filmmaker Dan Meth put together an awesome montage of dozens of Twin Tower clips from movies, set to an inspired soundtrack of music. I was wondering how he found them all, but on his website he gives credit to Donna Grunewald's lengthy list.

It's sweet and yet sad to remember a time when we thought giant fictional apes or floods were the biggest threat those buildings would ever face. The video is worth a watch.

Did the video miss any Twin Towers sightings? Is it hard for you to see the towers on film, or is it comforting? Discuss on Facebook.
