Crime, romance, intrigue — it's no wonder things can get pretty intense on the set of a political thriller like "Scandal." But star Scott Foley has a surefire way to beat the inevitable stress.

"There are some heavy scenes — especially when I don't have my shirt off — and ... there's a flatulent noise that can break, not wind, but tension," he explained during a Wednesday visit to TODAY.

And Foley's flatulent fake-outs have gained popularity with the rest of the cast, too.

"Even when I'm not on set now, everyone makes a little ... noise," he said as he delivered a demonstration.

The anchors couldn't help but laugh, but Foley realized there might be someone who wasn't laughing back home.

"I can't believe I'm doing this on the TODAY show," he said. "My wife, she's under the couch right now. 'What is he doing?!'"

Still, Foley felt certain that someone else approved: "My 3-year-old is like, 'Yes!'"
