Oprah Winfrey made news last week, reiterating to Barbara Walters that her relationship with best friend Gayle King is platonic. Now, Rosie O’Donnell is speaking out in support of her new boss.

“Anything that she says, I believe, is the truth,” O’Donnell told ABC News.

O’Donnell added that she thought Winfrey was clever when she filmed herself and King on their cross country road and camping trip.

“I thought she was really great on the road trip with Gayle when they were going into the camper and she said let’s spice up those lesbian rumors,” O’Donnell said. “And no, I don’t think she’s gay.”

But that wasn’t always O’Donnell’s point of view. Last year, O’Donnell speculated on Winfrey and King’s friendship during an interview with Howard Stern’s SIRIUS XM Satellite radio show.

“I don’t know. I think she’s never been married and she’s exceptionally close to Gayle,” O’Donnell told Stern back in October 2009. “I don’t know that she and Gayle are necessarily doing each other but I think they are the emotional equivalent of…”

“A gay couple,” Stern chimed in.

“When they did that road trip, that’s as gay as it gets,” O’Donnell said. “And I don’t mean it to be an insult either. I’m just saying, listen, if you ask me, that’s the couple.”

Further making her own point, however, Winfrey tried to find King a man in Australia, where she is currently filming several episodes of “The Oprah Winfrey Show.”

“I said to Gayle, because we just did this camping trip, and Gayle goes, ‘Maybe I’ll find a camping man.’ She needs an Aussie,” Winfrey said. “I said, ‘What you need, is an Aussie man!’”
