Singer Robin Thicke and actress Paula Patton have separated after eight years of marriage, the couple told People magazine on Monday.
"We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time," the couple said in a statement.
Thicke, 36, and Patton, 38 have a 3-year-old son, Julian. They met when Thicke was just 14.
Thicke, the son of "Growing Pains" star Alan Thicke and singer-actress Gloria Loring, had a huge hit in 2013 with the controversial song "Blurred Lines." He famously was performing the song on the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards with singer Miley Cyrus when she drew headlines for her risque twerking and use of a foam finger.
Patton told TODAY that the VMA performance was rehearsed for days, and she was shocked by the negative public reaction to it.
