LeAnn Rimes is finally speaking out about her relationship with boyfriend Eddie Cibrian — a coupling that ended two marriages and caused months of headlines.
“I did one of the most selfish things that I possibly could do, in hurting someone else,” Rimes told People of hooking up with Cibrian, her “Northern Lights” co-star (a Lifetime movie that aired last year). “I take responsibility for everything I’ve done. I hate that people got hurt.”
However, she added that one thing she’s not sorry about is her current romantic status.
“I don’t regret the outcome,” she told the mag.
Though the two got steamy on screen in the Lifetime movie, which aired in March 2009, she said their friendship “tipped over” into something more a few months later.
At the time, Rimes was married to Deane Sheremet, while Cibrian was married to Brandi Glanville. More recently, Rimes and Sheremet reached a divorce settlement in December 2009, while Cibrian filed for divorce from Glanville in August 2009.
“I never once thought what I was doing was OK,” Rimes said. “It was very emotionally driven.”
Rimes told the mag that she and Sheremet tried to work things out, following reports in the tabloids in March 2009, linking her romantically with Cibrian (something both stars denied at the time), but the union wasn’t meant to last
“It wasn’t a marriage that fulfilled either one of us,” she said.
